Projection Video Art: Tom de Peking (France)

Tom of Peking is not really Chinese but French, from the Saboya, and he lives in Paris. He is a militant artist, a graphic artist and a producer, and becomes interested in the relationship between images and symbols, always in the erotic-recreational sense. He has worked for the Têtu Magazine, but also for Amnesty International or Aids. He has produced video clips which have been shown at numerous international festivals, and this spring he opened an exhibition at the famous headquarters of the French Communist Party. Since 2000, which was marked by a journey to China and it Maoist aesthetic, he has replaced with humour in his drawings war paraphernalia with sexual gadgets. Recovering images from the Little Red Book or wartime posters, Tom fights for a sexual revolution, the only valid one to his mind. His objective: to free us from moral oppression! In multi-coloured cartoons full of jubilation, his soldiers boast penises like banners and his oriental animators show breasts like shields... Tom of "Peking", then, as opposed to Tom of Finland, carries on with the jokingly intended slogan "make love, not war". As well as projecting some of his most ironic works in our inaugural festival, Tom has co-operated with the Mostra in designing the cradle of the presentation of the festival.
