Director Mostra FIRE!!

In Spain now homosexuals can get married to each other and soon we will be able to adopt children as couples, and in doing so live like other people. It was a question of social justice, of equality and a necessity for many people who can now make use of their rights. Also there are others of us who are not interested in continuing reproducing patterns and who are still unsatisfied, and who think that society has to keep on evolving because, among other things, in the immense majority of the countries of the world homosexuality remains a cause of discrimination, rejection or is even considered a crime.

Perhaps with the Mostra the onus is on us now to keep revindicating not only the rights of homosexuals and transexuals until their complete normalisation, but also life, liberty, and the diversity of all people; because society still forces us to choose, to position ourselves so we can be classified and kept satisfied and controlled. Western society always pushes us to choose an ideology, a sexual orientation; it impulses us to choose a way to consume, to think, to choose a language, an identity; and we just don't want to do it, because we want to live with the freedom not to have any or all of these ways, or to think one thing one day and the opposite the next.

Because here in our comfortable society we have to remind the power, which is still a masculine and heterosexual power with which we do not want to be complacent, that there is still much to do, that here and now there is not work for everyone, that the wealth is not well-distributed, that there is not proper access to a home, nor equality for women; that there is not real secularisim nor education, nor respect for anyone who thinks differently, that a human being cannot be illegal; that we are damaging ecosystems, and there is not even peace.

Maybe we have come just to get on peoples' nerves, like Derek Jarman or Gil de Biedma; like Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Fassbinder or Eloy de la Iglesia, like Capote, Susan Sontag… and like so many others. It is of people and artists like them that we want to talk in the Mostra.

I would like to introduce you the FIRE!! Team that has made this possible:
